Some of my favorite charities include:
Ruth’s Closet: This new enterprise developed by the House Of Ruth, Maryland offers high quality, gently worn merchandise such as Chanel, Tod’s, Paul Smith for Women, Nanette Lepore and Milly at affordable prices. Staffed primarily by dedicated volunteers, 100% of the profits will fund programs to help victims of domestic violence and their children rebuild their lives safely and free of fear.
Ruth’s Closet sells donations in the store and they take some of the clothing to the shelter where the women can “shop” in a safe and supportive environment. Be sure to check their hours as they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is a truly wonderful charity to support!
Humane Society of Baltimore County: I have taken old sheets, towels and blankets as well as cat and dog food and toys. They also accept stuffed animals for the animals to snuggle with. The staff members are always so friendly and appreciative!
Goodwill Industries: Goodwill is conveniently located on my way home and they take just about anything! I am President of Foundation Recovery - a program dedicated to providing safe, clean, supportive housing conducive to recovery and restoration for those recovering from addiction and alcoholism. One of my jobs has been to organize and set up the houses and I bought many beautiful drapes from Goodwill as well as some furniture in great condition. You never know what you will find at Goodwill!
The Salvation Army: The Salvation Army will pick up donations at your home which is great when you have larger items and furniture.
The Maryland Food Bank: This is a wonderful charity to donate excess food items. I urge you to go through your pantry at least twice a year and donate food items that you are not using as they will be much appreciated.
Hadassah: Hadassah is a wonderful charity supporting health care, education and youth programs in both Israel and the United States.
The “Reuse Directory”: This is a directory of reuse organizations for Baltimore County residents and businesses, can be downloaded at www.baltimorecountymd.gov/recycling.
This comprehensive list includes the charity’s contact information, accepted items, drop-off times and procedures, whether they have pick-up service and their end use of the donations. I can help you decide on the most suitable charity for your donations and remember, transporting your donations to a charity is included in my hourly fee!
